REGINA MALE VOICE CHOIR 1950 – 1959

The 1950’s saw a new comic strip, that continues to this day, Charlie Brown by Charles Schulz. Credit Cards began to appear. The war in Korea. The age of the car Drive-ins. “Singin’ In The Rain” with Gene Kelly. The artificial heart. Passenger jets. Queen Elizabeth was crowned in June 1953. D.N.A. The four-minute mile. Disneyland opened in Los Angeles. Sputnik I was launched – the beginning of the Space Race

In Regina the Male Voice Choir presented an Annual Concert each year in this decade – –

April 11, 1950 Metropolitan Church with Barbara Ann Franklin, Soprano.

March 28, 1951 F.N.Darke Hall with Elinore Chisholm, Pianist.

April 15,16 1952 F.N.Darke Hall with Irene Salemka, Soprano.

April 8, 1953 Exhibition Auditorium with Jon Vickers, Tenor.

April 21, 22 1954 F.N.Darke Hall with Lois Pearson, Soprano.

April 12,13 1955 F.N.Darke Hall with Marilyn Duffus, contralto.

April 3,4 1956 F.N. Darke Hall with Lesia Zubrack, colorature Soprano.

RMVC 1957

May 1, 1957 F.N.Darke Hall with Marie Gazda Soprano.

April 15,16 1958 F.N.Darke Hall with Joan Lowey, Soprano.

April 7,8 1959 F.N. Darke Hall with Irene Salemka, Soprano.

Several concerts were held, on request, at other locations such as the Princess Patricia Club and St. Andrew’s. United Church, along with Zion United Church.

Conductor throughout this decade was Lionel Allen. Harold Gallagher continued as Accompanist until the end of 1955 when Harvey Nicholson took over at the piano.

There were 74 RMVC members at the beginning of the decade and 69 when it ended.
