FAQ

Is there a charge for performances

The Regina Male Voice Choir is a registered Charitable Organization relying on member contributions, donations and honoraria from performances to help defray rehearsal space rental and other operational expenses. We gratefully accept an honorarium from organizations that are in a position to contribute one. Since we are a registered charitable organization, we can provide a tax receipt for received donations.

What kind of music do we sing? All kinds – a mix of traditional, folk and pop

We sing a wide range of well known Traditional, Folk and 20’s-60’s Popular music presented in an informal ‘sing-along’ format. We perform for audiences in Seniors Residences and Care Homes. The audience is invited and encouraged to sing along whenever they are familiar with the songs. The songs are selected by our choir director with suggestions from the members.

Does it cost to participate? A BIT

Members are encouraged to contribute $50 each year to help cover rehearsal room rental expenses.  Since we are a registered charity members receive a $40 donation tax receipt.

This fee is waived for a new member for the first year.

We have a charitable number that enables you to receive a tax credit for any additional donations.

Members are also encouraged to provide their own ‘uniform’ – grey trousers, navy jacket, black shoes and socks, white shirt and red tie for our annual Christmas ‘Boar’s Head Carol’ Event at Bushwakker’s Brew Pub.

How much time do I have to commit? A COUPLE OF HOURS A WEEK

All rehearsals and performances are normally scheduled on Wednesday nights, usually 7-9 for rehearsals, at Knox Metropolitan United Church, and 7-9 for our performances at Seniors Residences and care homes around the city.

Our Season begins in September up to mid December ending with the Christmas performance at Bushwakker’s Brew Pub, featuring the ‘Boar’s Head Carol’ Procession. Then We hibernate during the winter during January and February until we start up again in March through June.

If you’ve never sung in a group before, can you still be part of the RMVC?  YES!

RMVC provides an informal environment where you can begin getting experience singing with a group. If you like to sing (and you can carry a tune) you are welcome. Formal musical training or the ability to read music is not necessary, since many of our songs are familiar melodies that you likely know already and are sung in unison so you can start out with lots of group support. Some members with a little more experience add harmonies to some songs and as you get more experience you are welcome to do so.
Whatever your singing voice is at the the beginning, the individual quality of each person’s voice blends with and is enhanced by the rest of the group, so soon you feel right at home!
